Hi! I'm Laura...a Yorkshire woman living in Vietnam, via Rwanda and London, married to an American, whose heart sings for the shoreline in Cape Town. I’m a little bit of everywhere I’ve been lucky enough to call home – however briefly. I’m also now a new mum who now really knows the value of a minute, a photo, a moment captured in time.
I too am as awkward as can be when in front of the camera, so I 100% get how it feels to be nervous and/or clunky at a shoot. That’s why I’m here to help you focus on something other than me, so I can capture you as you really are - as other people see you (and trust me, you're gorgeous!)
If you really want some great photos of you/you and your partner or family, but you think you're just too uncomfortable in front of the camera...trust me, I *get* it. That's why I aim to make our sessions as casual and fun as possible. If you're with your family then you might be more comfortable with a home shoot: setting up some of your favourite family activities in your comfiest of spaces means that you'll find it easier to focus on what's happening rather than my camera.
On a couples/solo shoot, or just don't fancy having our session in your house? All good - I've got a ton of fun prompts up my sleeve and we'll have such a good chat that our hour will race by. Plus, I take time to get to know you a little before our shoot, so that I can tailor my prompts to your style. Like a bit of PDA? I've got just the prompts for you. Would rather die before you go for a big snog in public? I've got prompts for you too! Basically: if you get camera fright, you're in safe hands with me.
Firstly, deep breath! Aaaand let it go. Kids are gonna kid, so a meltdown may or may not be on the cards. That's okay! This a judgement-free zone. We can focus on someone else in the family and let them have a little time to themselves to calm down and take in what's going on. Sometimes that's the trick! And sometimes it's their favourite snacks. (Are we above a little bribery for an hour? We are not!). Whatever happens, squish those shoulders up to your ears for a sec and then let them drop right back down, because the calmer and more relaxed we are, the easier they'll find it to rejoin the fun. We'll find a gentle way through it and by the end we'll have gotten you as many great shots as we can!

Oh yeah, I've been there (really recently, in fact!). I desperately wanted shots of my tiny nug and our new family of three, but I was so tired it was an effort to brush my hair. Here's the thing: you don't have to look your best for these photos. You don't have to curl your hair, or put on a cute dress, or even makeup. Let me come and photograph you as you are, because I relish in the details of life as it is. Got a bedside table full of tissues and pump parts and half-empty cups of water? It's all part of the rich patina of your life right now - and some day, when your baby grows and your memory gets a little fuzzy around the edges, you'll love the reminder of how those early, wild days felt too...messy hair and all.
